Acute Dementia

Can homeopathy help with dementia?

Some remedies are used for acute dementia, and some are used for dementia in the elderly.  However, since the incidence of dementia is on the rise, it will be worthwhile to focus on an acute onset of dementia first. Senile dementia will be described in another article.

Each dementia patient presents in a different way.

I wrote an app for dementia to help patients, or in this case, patients’ families, to find homeopathic treatment for dementia. When writing this app, I was saddened by the description of different faces of dementia. Remedies for dementia are presented in different ways.  Descriptions of dementia varied from each other, and were very serious, and the way it affected the patient was heartbreaking. I have seen in these descriptions a strong possibility that patients may commit dangerous acts like arson, homicide, or suicide.  The descriptions were surreal. None of the other apps that I created was as serious as the dementia app. These descriptions of dementia experienced by the sufferer show the immense tragedy of the dementia patient.

One of the remedies used for acute dementia is Glonoine (Glonoinum). This remedy is traditionally used for headaches or heat strokes, when there is a lot of redness in the face caused by the accumulation of blood flow in the head. And the fact that Glonoine is used in cases of dementia makes me very hopeful that this remedy can reverse acute dementia symptoms.

This type of acute dementia might be precipitated by a head injury or some mechanical contusions.

One of the keynotes, or specific symptoms ascribed to Glonione, is that the patient forgets where he lives, to the point that he gets lost on the streets that he knows well.  These streets appear strange to him.  I remembered having a patient like that almost 20 years ago, when I started practicing as an ND. I treated severe forms of allergies then, right after college.  My patient showed up to my appointment, a woman in her 60s, if I recall well, and she had told me that she got lost on the street, which she knows well, and she could not find our office, even though it was not her first visit.  I attributed her confusion to some expression of chemical allergies, which I was hoping she had.  If I knew then what I know now, that possibly she may have early symptoms of dementia, I would act, but as a young and inexperienced doctor, who did not practice homeopathy, but found homeopathy fascinating, I could not help. I remembered her confusion, though I registered this strange occurrence that happened to her in my mind, only to recollect it now, when I write this article.

Another case, I’ve observed, when driving through some town once, was the presence of a man in his 50s. He was walking on the sidewalk, dressed in a black leather jacket. On this jacket, you could see a white sign: “If it’s 4 PM, send me home.” Was this man also losing himself on the streets?

Along with dementia symptoms, there will be symptoms related to the head, like:  the head is hot, and the body is cold to the touch.  There might be a throbbing headache and a feeling that the head is enlarged.  A classic picture of Glonoine is the accumulation of blood in the head and heart. This is why this remedy is used for strokes as well.

When talking about emotional aspects of dementia that would respond well to Glonoine, there will be a lot of fear in this presentation. That disorientation, when it comes to being lost on well-known streets, may cause a patient to have a tendency to run away.  To calm things down and to gain control over the situation, the patient may pray constantly, which can be attributed to some form of religious mania.

Our app has close to 30 remedies for dementia, and I tend to use more than one remedy at once, especially because of the seriousness of this condition. Dementia is very real. We need to use all helpful modalities and to do everything in our power to reverse this condition, especially since there is no official treatment.

Due to the seriousness of this condition, please do not attempt to treat dementia on your own! There is a risk of suicide here, or risk of homicide, that can be elicited during treatment. Please, leave the treatment to a qualified physician, who is able to oversee dementia treatment first-hand.
