Alcohol Addiction

Is homeopathy strong enough to break the drinking habit?

There are 43 homeopathic remedies that are used to treat alcoholism and found their place in our app. The app is used to find your own treatment.

One remedy, a remedy called Lachesis, deserves our attention as it may resemble someone you know.

Lachesis is a dominant remedy for alcoholism, but I never rely on one remedy alone. In practice, I have observed that giving several remedies at once has a higher “cure” rate, because it addresses several issues- all at once.

This remedy, Lachesis, will not only cover emotional symptoms, but it will also address physical symptoms as well.

Starting with the sensation of suffocation.  The patient feels constriction in his throat, and he feels that he is choking.  Because of this, the patient can jump out of his bed at night with the feeling that he is suffocating.  He cannot bear to have anything tied around his throat, as it poses a risk of suffocation.  The same thing happens with his waist; he will loosen up his clothes, and he does not like to have anything tight around his waist.

The patient will be pretty talkative and even jealous.  He will attempt to work or to do something, but these attempts will be futile; he won’t be able to persevere at these tasks.

Abusing alcohol will eventually lead to delirium tremens, and here Lachesis may be helpful (with the help of a qualified practitioner).  Classic symptoms of delirium, which many of you know, are- vision of mice.  Here, we may have that as well.  The patient can also see visions of snakes and other hideous objects.   These visions will precipitate fear in the patient, leading to anxiety and delusions (fixed ideas).  The patient will fear robbers at his home, and in advanced cases of delirium, he will believe that he is not at home, even though he is at home.

Looking at digestion- let’s start with vomiting.  With alcohol poisoning, we would expect vomiting, of course, but here, vomiting will happen mostly in the morning, and it may awaken the patient from a sound sleep.  The patient will believe that he is sick. The content of vomit would vary.  It may start with vomiting of food, mucus, and at the end – vomiting of bile.

With a stomach disorder, we will expect an intestinal disorder as well.  Here, alcohol-induced diarrhea.  Diarrhea, in turn, will cause the development of hemorrhoidal tumors that would protrude after each stool. Stools will be offensive.  There will be such disregulation of the digestive system that the anal sphincter will constrict, leading to a constant desire to defecate.

As with most chronic alcohol poisoning cases, the liver will not be spared. It will get enlarged. There will be a possibility of developing an abscess. Patient down the line would develop ascites- accumulation of fluid in the abdomen.  The spleen will also be affected.

From a more colorful point of view, the urine of the patient may develop a blackish hue, which is another keynotepointing to Lachesis as a potential remedy. There may be swelling of injured parts, and the skin will also show black discoloration, going to turn bluish- black color.

As you can imagine, with constant mental delusion bordering on delirium tremens, vomiting, and diarrhea, the patient will be exhausted. He will not tolerate hot weather so much, and he will crave coffee that may temporarily sober him up.
